Shown naked infant wearing the side-lock of youth with one finger held to his lips. Typically he wears the corwn of upper and lower Egypt. Horu/ Horus as an infant. Often depicted on his mothers lap some claim inspired the image of the Virgin Mary. There is a type of stela called (Horus on the Crocodiles, Horus cippus) where he would stand on the backs of two crocodiles, holding other dangerous animals such as snakes and scorpions, in this Bes is also assicated with him. Plutarch says Harpocrates is Isis's second son born premature with lame legs, becuase of this he is a protector of children and their mothers.

The god of the rising sun a representation of it's earliest light, and became the god of silence, secrets and confidentiality (Hellenistic, Ptolemaic Alexandria) and the embodiment of hope (Plutarch), due to a misunder standing by Harpocrates he mis understood the raised finger to the mouth as meaning silence but in Egyptian it stood for a symbol of a child; The Greeks took Har-pa-khered and adopted him into a Greek God but orginally he was the god who personified the newborn sun each day at dawn, the first strength of the winter sun, and also the image of early vegetation. Plutarch wrote He became the special protector of children and their mothers. As he was healed of a poisonous snake bite by Re he became a symbol of hope in the gods looking after suffering humanity. Personification of the ideal child. The Horus on the Crocodiles image could be used diseases and for protection against bites, stings or bites. (which came from Horu's triumph over dangerous animals in the marshes of Khemmis)
