Egyptian Civil Calendar
The Year
2021 Gregorian Calendar year,
422 according to Amentet Nefer,
28 according to the Kemetic Orthodox,
1737 according to the Coptics
The Egyptians had two calendars one that started on the rising of the star Sirius spdt (Egyptian) or Sothis (Greek) 'dogs star' correlating to the Goddess Sopdet this started the opening of the year. Which normally occurred in early July around the annual flooding of the Nile. Moving forward in time and with the addition of the Aswan High Dam which prevents the Nile from annually flooding it now occurs in early August. The other calendar was a Lunar religious calendar.
365 day Year
The Egyptians had 365 days to a year, but originally there was only 360 days. Ra had forbidden Nut to give birth to her children by Geb her brother/husband on any of the 360 days of the year. So Djehuty gambled against the moon god Khonsu for 5 extra days to help the Goddess Nut. He won and thus the five extra days are added at the end of the year and mark the days of her Children's birthdays.
